Party for a Purpose at Paddy Burke's Pub

Part of the Banding Together to End Homelessness Series: Benefit for Boston-based national homelessness public awareness project

March 20, 2004 — The documentary and educational program Give Us Your Poor: Homelessness & the United States is partnering with the Boston's Paddy Burke's Pub and local businesses for a March 20th benefit evening of fun, food, drink, and entertainment to help fight homelessness nationally and locally.

BANDING TOGETHER TO END HOMELESSNESS at Paddy Burke's Pub in Boston near the Fleet Center, from 7-12 p.m., will feature the original rock and roll music of Linus and an opening acoustic set by the singers of New York's Spacecake. Comedian Joe LaRoche will be emcee'ing the evening. Tickets are $20 or $15 with a college ID (donations greatly appreciated). Raffles and inexpensive drinks will be part of the evening. Raffles include "Beer for a Year" donated by Sam Adams, and "Ice Cream for a Year" donated by Brigham's Ice Cream.

The Give Us Your Poor project is revolutionizing awareness of the structural causes of homelessness to stimulate real, effective solutions. Give Us Your Poor is developing a documentary, educational materials, and community organizations to change how America views its homeless. The project is based at UMass Boston's Center for Social Policy.

Give Us Your Poor has already garnered contributions and support from world-class musicians, filmmakers, and homeless advocacy organizations -- including music by Bruce Springsteen, Sting, Arlo Guthrie, John Mellencamp, -- Academy Award®-winning filmmakers One Arts, leading scholars, homeless people, former New York City Mayor David Dinkins, Ellen Bassuk, and the National Coalition for the Homeless.
