Give Us Your Laughs!

A wiley band of comedians is out to make people laugh and raise money to fight homelessness.

May 11, 2004 — Give Us Your Laughs! is an evening of improvisational comedy benefiting Give Us Your Poor: Homelessness & the United States, a documentary, curriculum, music CD featuring homeless and celebrity musicians and community outreach program providing a multi-faceted approach to ending homelessness in America.

The performance will be held June 11th at the Puppet Showplace Theatre, 32 Station Street, Brookline. Reception is at 6:30 pm and performance is at 7:30pm. Tickets are $20 online, ($25 at the door) and can be purchased at, (capitalization important).

In a style similar to the TV show "Whose Line is it Anyway," Kitsch In Synch takes suggestions from the house to create hilarious short scenes on the fly. Their humor and creativity have audiences rolling in the aisles, holding on for dear life as comedy is pushed beyond its boundaries.

The Give Us Your Poor project, based at UMass Boston, aims to create a revolution in public awareness of the structural causes of homelessness in America. By developing a documentary, a music CD, educational materials and community forums, it is stimulating real, effective solutions which are changing how America views its homeless. Its focus is on dispelling myths, demonstrating structural causes, and showing that solutions do exist.

In addition to Kitsch In Sync, other world-class musicians, filmmakers, and homeless advocacy organizations have are contributing to Give Us Your Poor. These include Bruce Springsteen, Sting, Arlo Guthrie, John Mellencamp, Academy Award-winning filmmakers One Arts, leading scholars, homeless people, former New York City Mayor David Dinkins, Joe Kennedy, Robert Coles, Andrew Cuomo, Peter Edelman, Ellen Bassuk, and the National Coalition for the Homeless, and the national Alliance to End Homelessness.
